Learning to read isn’t easy for every child. And when a child falls behind in reading, not only is there an academic gap to close, but also an emotional one. With emotional defeat and failure setting in – quickly.
United Readers of America, in partnership with the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities, are taking this on, with one-on-one tutoring in the schools. They work with a method of teaching that is proven to solve even the most difficult reading disabilities –children with dyslexia, those who are learning a second language, and children who due to socio-economic difficulties are not able to keep up with their peers in the classroom. Research has shown early, effective instruction can prevent academic casualties.
We are bringing our skills to two schools in the Columbus area and hope to provide reading tutoring services to more than 60 children this upcoming academic year. But we need your help. The help of people like you who want to give back to their communities and to children and families in need.
